Grant to Rebuild Georgetown Road
Cecil Township has been awarded a $750,000 grant from the Multimodal Transportation Fund to rebuild the railroad bridge over Georgetown Road. For years, the low clearance bridge has been struck by oversized vehicles despite multiple warning efforts. Working with PennDOT additional flashing height restriction signs were installed, and highly visible and creative roadside warning signs were installed on both approaches to the bridge. The grant will allow the township and railroad to reconstruct the bridge to raise the clearance and eliminate the hazard. The new bridge is expected to significantly reduce roadway closures, improve safety for motorists and protect critical rail infrastructure.
